DSB: For those who don't know you- How did you get the
name "Young Rook"?
Young Rook: Well, i got the name back in high school, i
was like the class clown & I hung out with the older cats,so
everyday i was coming up wit new sayings,1 day I started
calling everybody rookie and based on that everybody just
started approaching me like "what up Rook"
DSB: How would you describe your style of music?
Young Rook: My style of music, I would say its "WELL
ROUNDED", being that I'm not stuck in the box on making
just one style of music.
DSB: Who would you say is your audience?
Young Rook: my audience is the world, because my
music can hit every category everyone can adapt to it .So
you might hear me on one song & the next track I may
sound totally different. Guaranteed if I play you 5 songs
you gone like at least 3.
DSB: What artist(s) have been your biggest influences?
Young Rook: well I'm going give you my top 5 fabolous
,jay-z, 50 cent, cassidy, jadakiss, also think joe budden is
the most underated mc.
DSB: Where are you from? How does that contribute to
your music/style?
Young Rook: I'm from south central L.A, Slauson & 2nd
ave baby. It takes apart to my music style being, I make
music from experiences, and what goes on around me.
Naw I ain't no big time dope dealer but ive done it, people around me do it, naw I don't gang bang but the homies do. So I
soak all that up and put it into perspective.
DSB: What makes you different from other artist?
Young Rook: I'm going to keep stress'n the "WELL ROUNDED", wit me being from the west coast I'm sort of stereotyped, so
thats going on in my section & make it so other coast & sections can feel it as well.
DSB: What other skills do you have that you aren't telling us about?
Young Rook: Well before this music it was basketball, so I still got that, also acting is something I do.
DSB: What made you want or decide to pick up a mic? When did you get started?
Young Rook: Well, it started back in 10th grade witch was around 2002,do to health problems i had to put a hold on my hoop
dreams,so i needed something else to do with my time,so i started writing rhymes,& its been a wrap every since.
DSB: Do you do any producing?
Young Rook: thats definitely something I have in the works, but for now I'm just trying perfect my music.
DSB: Are there any new albums/shows we should be looking out for? Are you featured on any songs?
Young Rook::Yes, I recently just finished my project "Label money". That should be out by the end of this month. Its not a
mixtape its a street album, all original tracks, I have production from C-ballin, Phrayze,1500, seige and the list goes on. Its
also going to be hosted by dj Warrior and the homie September 7th. Mark my words the best project in a long time.
DSB: How has your music evolved from when you first started?
Young Rook: Its evolved tremendous, I feel if you haven't developed since your start your in the wrong business.
DSB: Which songs have been the biggest crowd pleasers?
Young Rook: Theres a few, C u at the top, customers, beat go bang, "c u at the top" is more of a personal record, but the
listeners took it very well & I'm receiving great response's from it. Just the other day I was on the internet searching and seen
someone posted the song on hotnewhiphop.com my song had 6000 downloads. Thats love!
DSB: Tell us about your best performance or venues?
Young Rook: I did the key club in 2005,a couple perfomaces at csun, the bistro 880 club.
DSB: Worst performance nightmare?
Youn Rook: Its good I don't have any of those. Hopefully never
DSB: What does hip hop mean to you?
Young Rook: Hip hop means everything to me,because I basically put my all into it. I dropped everything to do music so all i
can do is grind to make my dreams reality.
DSB: What's your next hustle?
Young Rook: Investments, investments!! Im already in the real estate game, with two properties, so I'm trying to jump into
buying buildings and franchise's. Then we'll take it from there.
DSB: What are you expectations for the hip hop industry 10 years from now?
Young Rook: I expect to be a legend 5 years from now. The other 5 just gone bring better things. Thanks
