Young Brown
DSB: Wassup YB, give us a little background on
who Young Brown is and where the name came
from?
Young Brown: Back in the day I was writing and
refered to my self as a 3rd person called my self
"Young Brown" in a Verse. I didn't have an artist
name back then, so I just ran with that, it stuck
and here I am Young Brown.
DSB: What city are you reppin’?
Young Brown: South Gate Cali. Born in
Compton, raised partialy in Lynwood but lived
most of my life in South Gate.
DSB: At what age did your passion for music
develop?
Young Brown: I always had a passion for music
since I could remember. Mom and aunts sang
for church and had gospel tapes back in the
day. My pops side second cousin was spanish
R&B well known singer Selena Quintanilla so I
would like to say the music bugg trickled down to
me. They weren't a big influence to me and my
style of music but I think I grew a little more
intriege towards music because of that
backround, you know!?
DSB: Who would you say your style of music
resembles?
Young Brown: I think that's for the listener to
judge but whan I can say about my style of
music is that its a street, lyrical, chicano west
coast style. I features with some of West Coast
top spitters and I think I'm right there with em in
the songs. I feel I can spit and write with the best
of em! Listen to my first album "Out Tha Gate"

DSB: Do you write all your own music? Have you done any ghost writing for any artist(s)?
Young Brown: Yea I write all my music. I love writing more then rapping if that makes any sense, but don't take
the flow lightly! lol Yes, I have done ghost writing but I am unable to release for who.
DSB: You have worked with quite a few West Coast artist. Can you name a few of them and let us know who you
enjoyed working with the most?
Young Brown: Yea I worked with Suga Free, GMalone, 40 Glocc, Badazz, Kokane, Kartoon, WestSide Bugg Ese
Daz to name a few. I Enjoyed working with everyone and it was a privilage but working with Badazz was a big deal
for me. It was my first big feature and I admire him as an artist so much that it was unreal that I was actually
working with him at that moment. It was dope!
DSB: Are there any artist you are currently seeking to collab with?
Young Brown: Not currently “seeking” I just want to collab with everybody out here pushing and taking this music
seriously. But if there was someone I would love to collab with out there it would be DJ Quik! love he's beats and
dude can rap just as bad!
DSB: What has been your most popular song or performance to date?
Young Brown: Well I'm a prisoner of the moment so I wanna say my single that's out now "Young Gifted & Brown"
produced by JSteez but overall it would have to be “Listo” Feat G.Malone & 40 Glocc also produced by JSteez. It’
s real dope lyrical joint. Features 2 A class West Coast artist who happen to be representing 2 of the hottest
labels in Rap music at the moment. Very controversial song. One of my personal favorites.
DSB: What CDs are in your CD player right now?
Young Brown: Mix CD that consist of DJ Quik, 2Pac, Talib Kweli, Mausburg, Big L, Kurupt, George Benson, Suga
Free and some Jsteez instrumentals that he don't know I got! lol
DSB: What genre of music did you listen to growing up and how does that influence your craft today?
Young Brown: My older brother and sisters would play they "Mana" other Spanish Rock,"UB40" and all that other
80's poping music back then and I would listen when I was at home but most of the time I was with the hommies
playing west coast rap, DJ Quik, 2Pac etc. So yea, I grew up on Rap music which as u can see has been a big
influenced, I mean I'm a rapper. lol
DSB: If you had to decide on a career other than music, what would it be?
Young Brown: Man, I don't know. I have a passion for music. I could have really done anything as long as I had a
passion for it!
DSB: What are your plans for 2011?
Young Brown: Releasing my “Damage Control” Hosted by DJ Warrior going to be pushing that for a while. Also
Annimeanz and I are to release a new street cd produced by Jsteez. Yall gotta look out for that. Man, doing a
couple shows, exposure just hard work! My plans are to do more that I did last year period.
DSB: Any shows coming soon?
