Style MiSia
DSB: Wassup Style Misia, Introduce yourself to our
readers.
Style Misia:The name is Style MiSia, pronounced Messiah,
Music Producer/Songwriter, from Long Beach-CA.
DSB: How does having a Guamanian mother and Mexican
father impact your music?
Style Misia: It definitely has brought me up learning 2
totally different cultures and lifestyles. I got a first hand
taste at merging to backgrounds and combing them into
one...you can apply the same thing in music. The impact is
definite.
DSB: What struck your interest in Hip Hop?
Style Misia: Graffiti at first...then Djing..at such a young
age, when I was listening to all those early rap records, I
didn't realize that hip hop, as a culture, was taking form,
and I was indulging myself more and more into it as I got
older.
DSB: Now you are not only an artist, you also do some
producing right? What made you decide to start
producing?
Style Misia: Well I started as an Emcee and was in a
couple groups in the mid 90's. I ended needing beats at
hand and couldn't get the right sound or stuff I needed
that was exact to what I was looking for. So my father
convinced me to start producing and that it would be more
beneficial for me in the long run....and he was right. I

So the roles have definitely reversed for me.
DSB: What artist have you worked with?
Style Misia: As an active Producer in the game, I'll state the heavy hitters. I've laced music for Devin the Dude, Ras
Kass, Rasco, Planet Asia, 50 Cent, Peedi Crakk, Fish Scales of Nappy Roots, Bash Bros, The Grouch(Living
Legends), Equipto, Sean Price, Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother. I'll stop right there. The list goes on and on.
DSB: What was the experience like working with 50Cent?
Style Misia: It was a mixtape placement for me, something that I wished would of landed on his Massacre album at
the time. I didn't get to formally record with him. It went from my manager to his manager, a session went down and
that was that. Its a good resume builder for me, especially at that time because his buzz was so huge and I was
getting my foot into the door as far a Producer in the Majors, it did what it did for me. The track we did together
ended being a mixtape favorite across the board and is still gets play today on radio shows by Dj Whoo Kid and
Funkmaster Flex.
DSB: What track(s) has been the hottest for you?
Style Misia: Wow...the hottest for me. I dig all my joints...but if I had to pick something that jumps out to me right
now...I would say the beat I did for Devin the Dude, which is still unreleased at the moment. The track is pure fire,
raw and so musical. You can get a snippet of it on my website.
DSB: What is the latest project you have worked on?
Style Misia: I'm pretty busy, which is a good thing. I am in the process of finishing up the Bash Bros vs Rage Against
The Machine remix project. I just laced some production for Supastition and Fortilive for their projects comin out. I
did some work with Model Addicts, who used my music for their models in videos. I'm also working on doing all of the
music for this big MC battle on MTV2 called “1 World hip hop Championship” coming out in June.
DSB: Any album release dates or shows set?
Style Misia: I'm putting finishing touches on my Producer album which will feature a lot of the artists I have worked
with up until this point. I don't do artist albums anymore these days, the last thing I put out as an artist was in 2005,
but this new album will feature songs new songs from me just because I still love to get down on the song tip. No
shows for me....unless I get selected again to compete as a Producer in this years Red Bull Big Tune beat battle. If
so then you will see me live there this summer.
DSB: How has your music evolved from when you first started?
Style Misia: From my early beginnings as a Graf Artist. DJ, Emcee to a Producer, I feel I have come full circle. I've
learned to be more versatile with what I do musically and what I listen to. The scale for me now is much more
BIGGER and wide. I see music now in a whole other fashion and I still get excited like I was when I was younger.
DSB: Tell us about your best performance or venues?
Style Misia: Last year I was in the Red Bull Big Tune Producer battle in Los Angeles. One of the celebrity judges
was the legendary DJ Battlecat. When I went up in Round 1, I ended up not advancing to the next round...but the
beats I played still rocked the crowd...and it won over Battlecat. He lost his mind when he heard my joints and came
up to me after and gave me his # and said we needed to do some work. I was in disbelief that he felt my joints. To
be able to get his ear like that, a person who has platinum success and longevity in this music game, that was
golden to me and let me know I'm doing something right. I felt that was my best performance.
DSB: What does hip hop mean to you?
Style Misia: Hip hop to me is pure life expression. Its more than music, it is a lifestyle and a culture. Hip hop is
something you live and love doing so for eternity.
DSB: How can we stay connected to Style Misia?
