DSB: First off, thank you for sitting down with me for this
interview. For those who don’t know you who is Shon Doe?
ShonDoe: Im an upcoming artist from Bedstuy Brooklyn
just recently moved to Cali to further my experience in this
rap game and to get away to a new environment. Shon
Doe is basically a man like everyone else who chooses to
tell my life stories in my music because I know that the
things I went thru as a child in the rough streets of
Brooklyn can help someone else or just be a reminder to
some how far we have come.
DSB: When did you know that rapping was something you
wanted and needed to do?
ShonDoe: After they did the PJ’s video from Big Daddy
Cane I was curious about what was next. I saw how they
were treated and I would go inside the trailers and just be
amazed and how cool it looked to me as a child and so I
knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I also
know I wanted and needed to do this because once I got
serious I realized this is what I was good at. I tried other
stuff but I always came back to rap. I guess you can say its
my calling.
DSB: What are some of the things that Shon Doe learned
at an early age about rap that you use today?
ShonDoe: I learned patience loyalty, dedication and
humbleness. I learned that true success is a molding
process and it does not happen overnight. I learned that
respect is something earned and not to be taken lightly. I
realized that being true and good to people goes a long way and being an asshole (excuse my French) gets you nowhere.
My mentor and best friend is K-Solo taught me a lot early in my quest. Being around him and seeing the industry from the
outside looking in that helped me grow. He took me under his wing and showed me the dos and don’ts in the industry and
that talent is only 10 percent of rap. The other 90 percent is the business. So I highly thank him for that and be on the
lookout for his new LP There will be Hell to Pay.
DSB: There are a lot of rappers and artist in the game right now. What makes you different form the next guy?
ShonDoe: First and foremost I put God first in all I do now. I always knew I needed Him in my life but recently I re-dedicated
my life to him and I let Him order my steps. That’s the first thing I do that makes me different. My style is genuine its nothing
made up or talking about other people experiences its actually based on my life. When I speak on my songs, its things you
can relate to no matter if you on the East Coast, Mid West Dirty South or the West Coast its real life music.
DSB: What are you currently working on?
ShonDoe: Working on my 2nd mix tape and my album is almost complete called the Franklin Mint. I am working on getting
more features and more producers. I’m basically expanding my horizons and working with those who have real talent and
want to get it like me. I’m currently reading a few scripts and enrolled in some acting workshops so I’m trying to get some
things done.
DSB: You mention acting when did you start that?
ShonDoe: I was introduced to acting when I was younger and was at the video shoot with Big Daddy Cane. I also had a lead
role in a movie called East New York featuring Remy Ma, Killa Priest, and Damion Ellis. I realize that videos are mini movies if
your music is telling a story. So acting really comes with being an artist and not just being a rapper.
DSB: What can folks expect to hear when they pop in a Shon Doe tape?
ShonDoe: 150% real music, a great stage show, and someone who is down to earth and willing to go the extra mile for what
he believes in and that’s music. You can expect to see me on the big screen real soon.
DSB: Any last shout out before we end this ?
ShonDoe: Big up to my MOMS. Maino , Mike Beck, Papoose, Top of the Building, My new fam Diocese Bishop Lamont ,
