DSB: Mac & A.K, what up fam, can you guys introduce
yourself for our readers?
Mac&AK: We’re Mac & A.K. up out of the city East Palo
Alto which is in the Bay Area of Northern California.
DSB: Being twin brothers, how’s the vibe when you get in
the studio?
Mac&AK: We been doin music together since 1993 so we
pretty much know what to expect from each other. Songs
come together pretty quickly when we focus in on a project.
DSB: How did you guys get started in the industry?
Mac&AK: Mac put out his first CD in 1993 with the group
Black Jack. After leaving the group in in the same year, A.K.
came up with the idea of starting a group. Our first cd
“Westbound (For Riders Only)” came out in 96 and we’ve dropped 3 albums since then.
DSB: With the Hyphy movement coming out strong, where do you feel Bay Area music is at? A lot of folks don’t know but
they are 2 different styles, right? Can you drop some knowledge on our readers?
Mac&AK: The Hyphy movement is a good thing. The new generation of artist have created a sound that expresses how
they feel and what they are into. We support that. At the same time, my generation which comes from the Mob era is still
around and putting out good music that is still heavily respected You also have the underground movement of cats like
Zion I and Planet Asia heavy in the streets. TheBay is the most diverse region I know of, and we all hustlers and love
what we do.
DSB: E&K Music Group, can you let our readers know about this project?
Mac&AK: The current album is called “Legendary” and we put it out in the summer of 2007 and it’s been getting a lot of
love and has been doing good in the stores and in the streets.
DSB: What are you guys currently working on?
Mac&AK: The new album that we’ll be dropping in 2008 is called “Only The Strong Survive” and it’s a banger of a
album. Mac produced the whole album. We gonna keep the features a secret till we kick off the promo on the album.
DSB: Mac, we hear you doing it on the production tip, so you do all your in house production? Who are some of the
artist you have worked with?
Mac&AK: Yeah, I have handled all the production for Mac & A.K. since we started the group back in 93. We have our
own studio called Grind Time Studios so we are able to really expand our sound now. I’ve worked with the Bay’s best
from E-40, San Quinn to Keyshia Cole, and even legendary cats like Above The Law and M.C. Ren and hope to work
with a lot more cats goin forward.
DSB: What up with the rumors about a DVD coming out?
Mac&AK: Yeah we workin on a documentary called “Grind Time (Behind the Grind)” and hope to wrap it up in 2008.
DSB: Where can our readers get at you?
Mac&AK: They can reach us on our myspace page at www.mypsace.com/macnak
DSB: Good looking on the interview, any last words you would like to leave our readers with?
Mac&AK: One love to all our fans and supporters, and we’re gonna keep the ball rollin and hopefully keep puttin out
