Dj Back Side
DSB: Good looking on granting us this interview. Let
our reader know who you are.
DJ BackSide: Whattup everyone, it’s yah girl DJ
BackSide.  Reppin’ the Bay all day, currently livin’ in
Los Angeles, and holdin’ down the west coast.  I’m
more of a do it all DJ.  Mixtapes, Clubs, Radio, plus
other side projects and endeavors like columnist for
Ozone Magazine and owner of Got Bay? Clothing.

DSB: Where are you from and where do you reside
now?
DJ BackSide: see above! ha

DSB: I see you keep it Hyphy!!! “GOT BAY” I need
one of those many shirts you wear!!! How long have
you been a DJ? And what made you get in the game?
Do you remeber you first gig?
DJ BackSide:  Yup…check out the got bay shirts and
hoodies at www.igotbay.com and www.myspace.
com/igotbayclothing !  Gotta keep it bay all dayyy.  I’ve
been a DJ since 2002, so still rather newish some
would say, but have def experienced a lot.  I actually
started by experimenting with a turntable set up in the
backroom of a college radio station, and the artform
essentially made me get in the game, I actually started
out more of a turntablist scratchin’ and jugglin’ and
loved it, but at the end of the day, that didn’t pay the
bills!  So eventually I have obviously branched out to
mixtapes, clubs and all.  My first gig was probably like
a house party or a college party or something, I
actually don’t even quite remember, but I’m sure it
would be humorous to see a video of that!  Ha. Run
dat back!
DSB: Who are some of your favorite artist?
DJ BackSide: There are so many, but here are a few, Kanye West, E-40, Too Short, Keyshia Cole, MC Lyte, Swizz
Beats, Jay-Z, Chris Brown, T-Pain, Twista and pretty much all Bay Area artists!

DSB: What artist have you had the pleasure of interviewing and working with?
DJ BackSide: Interviewed and worked with most all bay area artists which is always fun whether it was reppin’ on
mixtapes or my former mixshow or online show.  Specifically, Mistah FAB, Dem Hoodstarz, Too Short, San Quinn, Messy
Marv, E-40 were some of the most memorable.  Other interviewed artists are Chamillionaire, Xzibit, Russell Simmons,
Remy Ma.

DSB: What else do you do besides DJ? What are the special hidden talents our readers may not know?
DJ BackSide:  As far as DJin’, a lot of people don’t know that I started out as more of a turntablist scratchin’ and all, so
I def still can cut somethin’ kool.  Outside of that, I was an athlete before Djin’ officially took over my life, so when it
comes to track & field, I will prob burn anyone out there in a race!  Ha.  Put some hurdles in front of me too and it’s a
WRAP!

DSB: Now, you have a mix tape out right? How many mix tapes have you put out thus far?
DJ BackSide: Right now I actually am working on a mixtape called BackSide Blends.  It’s going to be blends and
remixes of  current and older songs.  You can preview some of the tracks up on my myspace page right now to get a
taste of what it’s goin’ to sound like.  The mixtape game has changed a lot even in the few years that I have been doing
them.  You gotta be different, anyone can go and get all the hot songs and mix em up and slap em on a cd.  You have
to stay creative and original if you are REALLY going to make money doing it.  I’ve mostly stuck to that formula as far
as my “Got Bay?” Mixtape series which focused on all Bay Area Music.  I’ve had 5 of those releases all being hosted by
major artists out of the Bay Area.

DSB: What upcoming events do you have planned for this year?
DJ BackSide:  Definitely just keep checking www.myspace.com/djbackside for upcoming events, I might be coming to a
city near you!

DSB: Where can our readers get at you or get more info on DJ BackSide?
DJ BackSide: myspace.com/djbackside all day!

DSB: Any last words you would like to leave our readers with?
DJ BackSide: Yah…since this is the street buzz..def get your buzz up, in the streets, in your hood, wherever.  That is
your foundation, your cash cow, what ever else comes after that as far as opportunities and all is just icing on the
cake.
