Dj Ames
DSB: Who is DJ AMES?
DJ AMES: DJ Ames is a hardworking mixtape DJ that wants to hear new music and
enjoys getting new and talented artists the exposure they deserve. Im also very
honest which can not be a good thing as many people easily take offence to the truth.

DSB: Did you always want to be a DJ?
DJ AMES: Ive always loved music and loved the US mixtape scene but it wasn’t until I
was 18 that I started to make things happen, that’s when I bought my first set of turn
table and started building my vinyl collection.

DSB: You must be sent hundreds of tracks from aspiring artists for your mix-tapes,
do you use them all?
DJ AMES: No I don’t use them all, I'm very picky. If people send me tracks that have
been recorded poorly ill give them advice on what to do and tell them to email with
me a better quality. I do try and show everyone love and use there tracks but
sometimes with the amount I get its hard. Im also a member of US based dj crew THE
FLEET DJ’s and recently joined Slip N Slide DJ’s so I get a lot of exclusive stuff from
the major labels also. Ill get tracks that wont be heard in the UK for another 6months
which is always good to have.

DSB: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
DJ AMES: Hopefully in America as that’s where the mixtape game is buzzin. But we’ll
see and ill take each day as it comes, I don’t like getting my hopes built up too much
as it avoids disappoint. At the mo im still working 9 – 5 which funds all my projects so
as long im earning money and doing music im happy.  Im also studying production in
January so who knows what new doors that could open.

DSB: Tell us about your newest releases like Grindtime Vol 1 and the MS RE’ Mix-
tape you have been working on?
DJ AMES: Grind Time is a free download series I do promoting the up and coming
artists from around the world mixed with some of the well known artists, its just basically about give peeps a chance to
get heard as I don’t charge for slots like the majority of mixtape DJs do.

MS RE’ is a seriously talented artist, I just finished the mixtape this weekend and I enjoyed doing the mixtape as all 16
tracks were bangers, will look forward to working more with her on various mixtapes and projects.

DSB: How many Mix-tapes did you put out in 2007 alone?
DJ AMES: Unsure to an exact amount but its approaching 90 and I still have 10 more on my list to drop before the
years over and each day a new mixtape gets added to the list.

DSB: How long does it take you usually from start to finish to do one Mix-tape?
DJ AMES: It depends really on various things. Like how many tracks? What the artist wants me to do. If its 12 tracks
and the artist gives me a shout out script it can be done within a few hours maximum. For more bigger tapes 24 – 48
hours.

DSB: You recently joined the Slip N Slide DJ’s, what does a move like that mean for you?
DJ AMES: It means a lot to me as Slip N Slide are a major label and its good to be associated with them and the
great artists that they also have on there roster. Expect a few mixtapes from myself on Slip N Slide artists also.

DSB: You are also joined with Fleet DJ’s right? How did that link come to surface?
DJ AMES: Its great being with The Fleet DJ’s. Klassik the CEO is a great guy and a hardworking cat. Hes done a lot
and supported me so I gotta give lots of respect for that. How It came about was Klassik approached me early in 2007
after hed seen the amount of mixtapes id been putting out and I just couldn’t say no to the chance. They doing big
things and have some great artists on board also.

DSB: Also you have completed 2 albums, what makes these different to your mix-tapes?
DJ AMES: The albums are basically the artists that I think have done the most for me, and work the hardest. A lot of
peeps send me bangers and its hard making the choice, so I look at work ethic and that’s what I go for when It comes
to the albums.

DSB: When can we expect another album?
DJ AMES: Nothings planned at the mo, but who knows what will happen in 08.

DSB: Everyone has someone they admire and look up to, who gives you inspiration?
DJ AMES: Westwood is one person ive always looked upto he inspired me to get into DJing, but DJs like Green
Lantern, Drama & Kay Slay are well established DJs in the mixtape game.

DSB: What can we expect from DJ AMES over the coming months?
DJ AMES: More mixtapes with major US artists and maybe a 3rd album in the summer but that’s t.b.c. I plan to reach
out a lot more so expect more interviews, magazine appearances etc.. I might even do clubs as well.

DSB: How can we contact you?
DJ AMES: There’s the myspace which is http://www.myspace.com/djamesuk my website is under construction and
that will be http://www.djamesuk.com when its done. You can also email me directly at ukmixtapeking@gmail.com
